Finally Moved and SAHARA

The last box was unloaded at our new home on December 6th.  We are slowly making our way through the boxes.   The family Christmas celebration was at our house this year so we had to clear enough space for the tree and dinner table.  The Christmas boxes (ornaments, stockings, etc.) were finally uncovered on Christmas, but we had already had fun looking for new ornaments....and everyone got a tote bag this year, instead of a stocking!

But the studio is beginning to take shape now and I actually have a few workspaces (and lights) set up.  And my stitching light and frame has finally been located.  So I'm back in business and back to stitching.

Above is a new design....in progress.....Sahara.  I will be adding a few square and tubular beads in the next few days and then putting it aside for about 6 weeks, as I need to work on another proposal design.  Sahara, again, includes the use of Copic markers in another layered technique.  There will be both solid and open areas in the remaining rectangles.

Part of the inspiration for this design comes from the "blue people" of the Sahara: The Taureg and their jewelry while the colors and undulating sand dunes of the Sahara provides the rest.  (When looking at the scan below, please be aware the scanning area was just a little too small so the left side is cut off a little.....the design is actually square!)

I plan to post a finished "sketch" next week.

Happy New Years!

One framed and one pillow

Here is Color Kaleidoscope finished into a really cute pillow.  Marlene, of Marlene Custom Pillows, did a great job.  The fabric has an interesting weave to it and she custom dyed both the ball fringe and the corkscrew fringe to match. The overall dimensions of the pillow are 13" square.  It is a little hard to see all the beads, so look carefully.

And here is a picture of Leaf Collage now that it is framed.  The main outside mat is a medium gold and the inner mat is a dark red.  The two rows of darkest blue along the inside edge barely show.

Both of these will be offered at the ANG seminar next year in San Antonio.  Hope to see you there!

Now back to finishing up kits for this year's seminar in Columbus.  The end of the summer has arrived!  Where did my summer go? Only 5 more days into September 1st.....and to me.....the beginning of fall.

Happy stitching.....

Leaf Collage completed

I am very happy to be able to tell you Leaf Collage is now finished.  Right at the end I had to unstitch part of one of the leaves.....because it just wasn't "right".   But changing one color to just a shade lighter made all the difference.  Anyway, it is now at the framers and is scheduled for pickup on August 16th.

The mats we chose are soft gold for the outer mat and the dark orangey red for the inner mat.  The frame is simple soft gold wood with a subtle scroll work pattern.  An interesting question arose as to what color to use as the backing......since there is a lot of exposed canvas.  We finally decided on Eggshell, the color of the canvas, and not a darker one.  I am looking forward to seeing the finished, FINISHED piece!

But now, on to Color Kaleidoscope.  I will post something an update photo late next week on this one.

August is almost here already!
